Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know Italian to study in Italy?
Not for English-taught programs. Italian universities offer a wide range of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in English, particularly in engineering, business, economics, medicine, and international relations. For these you need IELTS 6.0–6.5, TOEFL iBT 79–90, or Duolingo 100–110. If you choose an Italian-taught program, you will need B2 level Italian certified through CILS or CELI.
What do I need for an Italy study visa?
Non-EU students apply for the Italian Type D National Visa. You will need a valid passport, university admission or pre-enrollment confirmation, proof of financial resources, proof of accommodation, and health insurance with at least €30,000 coverage. After you arrive, you must apply for your Permesso di Soggiorno (residence permit) within eight days.
When should I apply for an intake in Italy?
The Fall intake in September/October is the main intake with the widest program availability. A smaller Spring intake runs in February/March for limited programs. Early planning matters for Pakistani students because visa appointments and document verification take time, so we recommend starting six to nine months ahead.
Can I stay in Italy after I graduate?
Yes. After finishing your degree you can apply for a temporary stay permit that lets you look for work in Italy or elsewhere in the European Union. Because Italy is a Schengen country, your degree also gives you greater mobility across Europe.
